Professors and Handwriting

March 13th, 2008 by ReAn

It seems that lately a lot of older people (i.e. my father) are confused and shocked as to why handwriting is never taught/tested in school. They seem to think it’s an important thing to have in today’s digital world. Well I’ve noticed an interesting trend. The older someone is, the worse thier handwriting is. My father himself has some pretty neat handwriting, even his printing is particularly good. However, most older people i see have horrible handwiting, even worse than most of the younger folk, whom use computers much more frequently.

Most of my professors @ uni have horrible horrible handwriting. So horrible that sitting in the front row with 20:20 vision, I cannot make out even the slightest inkling of what the prof has written down. Being in a scientific degree this is a problem, because not only is there a lot of content that has to be written rather than just dictated, if the professor has horrible handwriting, it’s nearly impossible to comprehend. I’m writing this post from the front row of my Rendering course, my professor is a pretty good and neat professor, but his handwiring sucks. He’s just filled the board with a boatload of mathematical formulas involved in B-Spline patches and it’s so ambiguous i’ve just decided not to bother.

I am confused as to how professors think this is beneficial in any way, what’s the point of wiring crap on the blackboard (yea, my prof specifically requested a room with a BLACKboard, not a whiteboard (harder to read from) is going to be any use when it’s unreadable.

Having discovered your blog, although why I didn’t glance upon the all too obvious website before I’ve officially determined, you can write a mean essay. You have writing skills but appearantly only on things that interest you such as, I don’t know, the IE8 Beta. (I have to say, you have officially labelled yourself as the ultimate nerd as of that post).
